MonoX Web Platform Installer Feed

04/05/2011Categories: MonoX
Many of our first-time visitors first heard of MonoX on Microsoft Windows Web App Gallery. Most of them are using the Web Platform Installer tool becuse of its simplicity and the ease of use. However, there is one downside: people at Microsoft's team are very busy checking all of the submitted applications, and there is a considerable delay between our official release date and the publication date on App Gallery.

The Web Platform Installer 3.0 solves this problem by adding a cool new feature that allows you to configure the application feed URLs. This feed will not only keep you updated with the latest official MonoX releases - it will also keep you up to date with all beta releases and patches.

Please make sure that you have the latest version of WebPI. After you start it, locate the MonoX package (using the search box or directly on the Applications tab):

There is a small "Options" link towards the bottom of this screen. Click on it, enter
 http://www.mono-software.com/Download/WebPi/MonoXFeed.xml under "Display additional scenarios", and click on the Add feed button.

That's it! There is an additional MonoX tab at the top of the screen that gives you a direct access to all current releases of MonoX.

Hello,

Please open a support topic here for any specific MonoX questions: http://www.mono-software.com/support/mono/.

On the downloads page you can find the MonoX manual as well.

I tried following these instructions but could never get the custom MonoX tab to appear. Now I have upgraded to Web Platform Installer 5 and it fails with the following error "The 'meta' start tag on line 41 does not match the end tag of 'head'. Line 60, position 7." I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling WPI5, I have even uninstalled WPI5, installed WPI3 removed the MonoXFeed.xml from options , however whenever I upgrade to WPI5 I still return to the original error above.

Hi,

Which link are you using to load the feed? Also, did you try deleting the feed and re-adding it, it might help. Platform installer tends to cache things at times and can get "confused" at times also.

I used the link provided in this post;
http://www.mono-software.com/Download/WebPi/MonoXFeed.xml

Which when trying to open directly gives me a 404. I do not see an updated link. Is there a newer post on using WPI I am missing.

OK I have uninstalled WPI 5.0 and reinstalled 3.0. I have updated the link to;
http://monox.mono-software.com/Download/WebPi/MonoXFeed.xml

Also I have deleted the cache (several times) and then closed and reopened WPI 3.0 (several times) I still do not see the MonoX tab. At this point I am holding off on upgrading to WPI 5.0 till I at least see the expected behaviour for 3.0.

Hello,

Unfortunately this article is a bit obsolete. The custom feed was update to support the latest version which is 5.0.
