Dear MonoX support,

I fail at every attempt to install MonoX from the Microsoft Web Install package with the following message:

Cannot connect to the database ''.
Login failed for user 'sa'

I'm reasonably clueless and need an idiots guide I think. Can you pont me in the right direction?

Many thanks,
Matt

Hi,

can you please check the version of MonoX that you are installing and get back to us with that. Also you need to be sure that you have created an empty database and that you have gave the "sa" account owner permissions to this database, please confirm this ?

Hi - many thanks. It's been v4.1.2741.40 from the MS Windows Web App Gallery from within Web Developer Express 2010.

I created an empty database and pointed the set up at it (I thought) but problems persist. I really do need an idiots guide as complete newbie - even that term is new to me!

Cheers,
Matt

Did you allow the "sa" user to access the database with the owner role ?

Note: You can create a new user for this operation as "sa" is system user account and it isn't a best practice to use that account, or maybe you can use Windows Authentication - your windows account.

Hi - many thanks,

The problem is I am a complete idiot. I haven't got a clue what you're talking about. My situation is I am doing this alone on my home PC. I don't need/want to set up any roles or passwords or anything at the moment I just want to see what this software does. I may well be too thick to operate it. I must be using 'windows authentication; because I am using windows 7? When I chose to overwrite an existing database (?) it gave me a user ID od Monox (as in case above) and the log records:

Using connection string: 'server=.\SQLEXPRESS;database=MonoX;uid=Matt;connect timeout=90'
DownloadManager Error: 0 : System.InvalidOperationException: Cannot connect to the database ''.
Login failed for user 'Matt'.

Perhaps I called myself Matt - I don't recall. What am I doing wrong?

Regards,
Matt

Hello,

Unfortunately due to the way Web Platform Installer works it requires SQL Authentication Mode to be used when performing software installations. The message you receive from the Web Platform Installer means that the actual 'sa' account password and the password you entered in the 'Database Administrator Password' textbox (in the Web Platform Installer Wizard) do not match.

You are also not required to create an empty database for MonoX installation via Web Platform Installer the program does that for you.

Please refer this article how to install MonoX using Web Platform Installer. You will be interested in the 2nd part of the article.

Thanks Mzilic. I'm afraid I don't understand SQL Authentication. How do I determine the 'sa' user account so these passwords match please? I have no idea what it is or how to find it out. Did I set it when I installed SQL? Should I re-install? I am doing this on my Windows 7 laptop and there are no other parties in this set up other than me.

Any further help much appreciated,

Regards,
Matt
