Mono Support Subgroups and Tagging

Is it possible to create Subgroups and also tag groups? I have seen tagging for blogs, but not for groups. The problem is that I am trying to see if I can adapt MonoX for being a sports league portal, and possible one that contains more than one league. So, I would have Leagues(s), which have teams, which have players. It would be nice if each of these levels can maintain their own social presence.

Something like this should be possible however some custom development will be required as MonoX doesn't support this out of the box.
